Another finish for July

Just thought I’d share my latest finish with you.  A colleague is having her birthday tomorrow….let’s just say she’s already had quite a number of celebrations in her lifetime!!!! She had mentioned that she really liked the bag I made from Dawn’s Baseco Mahal Kita tote pattern….DSCF0891 ….so I made her one of her own….. 001 please excuse the dark photo….I did finish it at 10pm tonight in readiness to take to work tomorrow so photographic conditions were less than perfect!!!!! I’ve used part of a Moda Mill House Inn layer cake and complemented it with ‘Family Tree’ by Pamela Lindquist for Benartex for the handles and sides, 004 and a very pretty, beige-toned floral (which I didn’t get the name of !) for the contrasting strips and the lining. 002 I even added a pocket for her little ‘special’ things that you just can’t lose in a handbag, like….. …lippy, or mobile phone, or car keys, or wallet, or chewing gum, or…or…or…..aw I don’t know….just things that are ‘spesh’!!! I do hope she likes it!  What do you think?? Big sugary hugs and happy creating! :O) Wendy XOXO

What happens on camp…..

If you’ve ever wondered what kids get up to on a school camp, take a look….. 228  156 ……pitching tents…… 004 …g-swing….(ie. giant swing….so often did it get called the g-string!!!!….so difficult trying not to laugh at the kid’s faux pas……. 028 abseiling…… 040 sharing jobs……. 041 Took turns to help our Host aka chief cook and bottlewasher for kitchen duties, including washing up and drying dishes, serving food, cleaning tables and sweeping floors….. 222 in our favourite place…..the dining room! 053 …..ate healthy food…. 061 made twisty damper over the campfire….. 070 formed new friendships…… 121 climbed up to the Leap of Faith…… 067 gained self confidence and faith in things that mattered to tackle difficulties …… 160 …annoyed the teachers in their sleeping quarters……(only two walls, privacy….hah!!!!),,,,, 212 showered in style…..(remember it’s winter here…..but only got down to 11 degrees minimum….still cold for a shower in the evening or early morn!!)…. 213 took many trips to the ‘long drop’…… 215  216 ….the boy’s version…….. 157 …..packed our bags and tents on the horse float for the hike down the hill to where the bus was to pick us up to take us home. 161 ………and said goodbye to a truly memorable campsite, one that offers children and adults alike the opportunities to push themselves to their limits, develop skills that they never knew or imagined they could ever access and help them become the best people they can possibly be to lead our world to a very bright future. There were so many other things we did whilst we were on camp but,,, 1. I didn’t take photos of everything due to some activities being night time and having to run the activities and take photos was a bit tricky….. and 2.  showing full on photos of the children is not on in a public domain….so I’ve done my best to give you a snippet of what we did…… So don’t let anyone tell you, “Whatever happens on camp, stays on camp!!!” ……..and what did I do when we got home? ………zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!! sugary hugs and sweet dreams! How forgetful….

….could I be????   I can remember to make 34 plate bags for the children and a plate bag for myself, but what about the other adults coming on camp with us???? It dawned on me that I hadn’t even considered them, so, with my ‘tail between my legs’ type attitude, I set about making them some extra special bags to make up for my lapse! Teachers 001 NO calico for these special ladies, but pure cotton, with my best Cottage Garden and Cosmos threads, a ruffle for the top and some ribbon and beads to show them how appreciated they are! Teachers 002 I love the names the give the Cottage Garden threads….my new ‘fave’……’Canna Lily’ and ‘Snapdragon’ on this one and… Teachers 004 ….’Iris’ and ‘Kookaburra’ on this one… and if you look closely, you’ll see the beads I added on the ribbons to match the threads and on each, beads that spell ‘friend’.  I do hope they’ll like them. Now, must go and start the packing process, and try and fight off this dreaded sore throat and ears that started yesterday…..what do they say???….timing is everything!!! Off to hit the medicine cabinet and gargle it away before Tuesday when we leave. Sugary hugs XOXO    Wendy    :O)
