a sneaky peek finish, an almost there and some shopping!

If you remember this sneaky peek…..

007

….well, this is what it became…..

001

Dawn was my very first commenter and follower and she has held a very special place in my heart from day one.   I have come to know her pretty well over the past 12 months, and in sharing the blog ‘Sew It’s Finished’ and chatting over the phone weekly, even though we have never met, I knew I just had to make her something special and that this would suit her down to the ground!

Being a fan of rework, this stitchery caught my eye when I flicked through my Turning Twenty books….it comes from ‘Turning Twenty Around the Block’ book by Tricia Cribbs and is one from the ‘Love Covers’ design.

I modified and and made it my own, using back stitch, satin stitch for the apples and lots of french knots for the flowers.  I added a pinky star surrounding and attached it to a canvas for her to hang in her sewing room.  Now she can look at it and know how much she’s loved!!!!!  (and I’ve heard she loved it……she wrote about it here).

Our Guild is having its Biennial Quilt Exhibition at the end of the month and we’ve been given some ‘challenge’ fabric to work with.  Our instructions are to make something no smaller than A3 size to no bigger than 36” square.  Well, I take things a little literally sometimes…..I heard the word “Challenge” and so that’s what I did…..I wanted to ‘challenge’ myself so I’ve used my ‘challenge’ fabric to do some foundation piecing.  I’ve only done it once before so thought this was a ‘challenge’ worth attempting!!!

You can see I’ve used a block from the 3rd book of Quiltmaker’s 100 blocks series ….QM21111

….and here’s my version…..the challenge fabric is the main fabric in the skirt…..I’ve added tulle over the top to give it a ‘ballet tutu’ feel!

Only partway there though, as I’ve got more plans with this one….you’ll just have to keep coming back to see how it develops!!!!

I also got a birthday gift which our Patchworking Group organised for our members. These were handed out at our meeting yesterday for people who had their birthdays in the first half of the year….I can see lots of uses for these little babies!!!!

And in getting prepared for the quilt show….I NEEDED some more fabric!!!!!!  So off we trotted to see Wendy at IddyBiddy Cottage

All I can say is “Yum Yum Yum”….no fabric diet in this house!!!!

And I’ve a friend having a 50th birthday party in October and the theme is Halloween, so…………….

007

…just a few fat quarters to make the party girl a gift to remember!!!

When I got home, I felt like these two pairs………

017

….exhausted and in need of a good rest!!!!

Hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend…I’m off to work on finishing my Raggedy Friends!   ( I hope you’ve been able to help Allie out with a block for Kaaren’s quilt too??….If not, you can get the link here)

take care and

Sugary hugs
