a week of drama

Last week was a week of drama…you know the ones??? …..where nothing seems to go right and everything that can go wrong, does!  Particularly when you have a deadline to meet! I had both my sewing machines at the doctors last week….3 times each, as neither wanted to play fair, and as I had to send my SSCS gift on its way, my fingernails became shorter and my hair became greyer in a very short space of time! But, just in the nick of time, I got one of the cheeky little beggers back on Friday morning and it began to behave, just a little…still some naughty business but we sorted that out between us!  I can’t show you my SSCS just yet, until Christmas day, but I can show you it has gone….. 049 (Medium) along with some other FQ swaps, birthday swaps and the wonky log cabins! 010 (Medium)   I was also in a mad rush to finish off my Christmas swap gift for our Guild break up…I really didn’t think I’d make it but…… 025 (Medium) ..it DID get finished!  (and the lovely Nola who received it thought it was wonderful!) 018 (Medium) some applique with a few beads and some hand stitching… 023 (Medium) and some FMQ (when the machine decided she’d like to play along!!!)…. 021 (Medium)022 (Medium) All whilst making these little gifts for the lovely ladies who join us every fortnight or so at our meeting place! 084 All in all, it turned out well, despite all the drama, we had such a fun time on Saturday at our break up sorting through quilty puzzles and left-right games, prizes galore and food to boot!!!!….. 026 (Medium)027 (Medium) all the swap gifts got sent, only a day late, and hubby took me on a lovely drive for brunch on Sunday!….aaaah bliss!   But I’ll leave that for another post! FNSI frustrations…

I love our Virtual Friday Night Sew Ins……gets me motivated to get something done….and I must confess…..I started a little early…..all day Friday, in fact!!!! I started with my four Wonky Log Cabins for Michele’s Sandy Quilt Block Drive…. 011 (Medium) followed by some designing and then working on a surprise gift for our Guild’s Christmas swap for our end of year luncheon next weekend…not near finished yet, so I can show the beginnings without revealing too much!!!… 008 (Medium) and then I followed with some work on my SSCS ‘secret squirrel sewing’ for Chookyblue’s swap and got lots done, until it got to the quilting of the borders…….  my machine decided it didn’t like to fmq, so it decided to mess with my head and miss stitches here there and everywhere……see where it’s missed???  015 (Medium) (don’t worry….this is only my practice piece!!!….) I’ve tried different thread, top and bottom, new needles, rethreading both top and bobbin (a dozen or more times!!!), pulling the thing apart and cleaning it for lint and stray threads (even though I only had it serviced last week …..…….. gggrrrrrr) and repeated this process over and over again!  Any ideas gratefully received! I think it’s back to the sewing machine doctor again tomorrow for this ‘beast’.  I only hope his magic wand is working.   So I ended up working on my sanity saver…. 012 (Medium)  My ‘A long time ago in Bethlehem’ stitchalong stitchery. Still a way to go on this one as this is block 7 (half finished) and there’s a few more left to do before the stitcheries are put together. I certainly hope I can get my SSCS swap gift finished for this week…and for that matter, my guild gift too!!! AAArgghh!!!! frustrating…. must be a male sewing machine…it has a mind of it’s own!!!!  Wish me luck! Sugary hugs :O) Signature

Wonky for a very good reason…

Today I’m going to attack my scrap buckets 045 (Medium) to make a few wonky scrappy log cabin quilt blocks for Michele. block-2 photo courtesy of Michele @ http://quiltinggallery.com You see, Michele is coordinating quilt blocks to be made to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy in the US…..I figure, we always have so much help when cyclone season hits our coast, it’s only right to help out others whenever we can. Michele’s organised the Sandy Quilt Block Drive…. Sandy Quilt Block Drive and she’s even got a tutorial to show you how to make them HERE I KNOW what a great bunch of guys and gals the blogging/quilting/stitching community is, so here’s a call out to all of you to help Michele as she’s a little short of block makers….you can make as few or as many as you like but you can read more about it HERE……and you will need to register on this link. stars On another note, I managed to watch this from my kitchen window this morning…    photo courtesy of  -WT.mc_id=en_top_stories What an eerie display……Although we live about 500km south of the best viewing place of Cairns in Far North Queensland, where all the journo’s and scientists flocked to get the ‘best’ view, I figured our view was pretty spectacular….and not a cloud in sight!!  Apparently not another one in Far North Queensland for more than 200 years, and none in Australia for another 10 so, talk about the right place at the right time!!!! Despite the fact that I broke a bottle of bubbly wine on the kitchen floor soon after….(no, I wasn’t having an early morning snort, nor was I celebrating the solar eclipse….simply getting the milk out for my morning coffee…….true!!!!!), I think viewing this spectacle might have made me a little wonky…… just setting the tone for sewing!!!
